We are hiring immediately for a Full Time Biostatistician to join the UTHealth School of Public Health - Epidemiology, Human Genetics, and Environmental Sciences in Houston, TX. This position has a hybrid option (combination of in-person and remote). In this position you would be responsible for study design, data management, and implementing quality control measures. You would also conduct interim analyses as well as develop final analysis plans, implement the actual data analysis, and provide results files and reports that detail the statistical interpretation of study findings.

Position Summary:

The purpose of this position is to support all aspects of design, analysis, and result interpretation for multiple genetic and epidemiologic studies in humans. This individual will be responsible for study design, data management, and implementing quality control measures. They will conduct interim analyses as well as develop final analysis plans, implement the actual data analysis, and provide results files and reports that detail the statistical interpretation of study findings.


Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Collaborates with investigators to determine study design, contribute to protocol development, and write statistical analysis plans.
  • Utilizes specialized computer/statistical software to address statistical and mathematical questions/issues (i.e. re-sampling, optimization) related to genetic and epidemiologic research projects.
  • Manages databases (i.e. retrieve, clean, and/or reformat data).
  • Develops systems for monitoring the quality of different datasets.
  • May write program code to analyze data using statistical analysis software.
  • Ensures high-quality statistical support is provided for investigational studies, projects, registries and basic research using advanced statistical skills and knowledge of epidemiologic and clinical research.
  • Maintains expertise in state-of-the-art data manipulation and statistical methodology.
  • May conduct ad hoc analyses.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:

  • Demonstrates proficiency with statistical methods and applications in clinical research.
  • Experience in data analysis of large administrative datasets (claims, registries, EMR) and observational studies.
  • SAS experienced preferred.
  • Ability to program in R is required.
  • Working experience in Unix environment preferred.

Minimum Education:

  • Master’s degree in related health science. PhD preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Two years of statistician experience.

Physical Requirements:Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
