Under the general direction of the Division Chief of Surgical Oncology or designee, the biostatistician is responsible for carrying out selected data management and analysis activities for a variety of Division projects.

Position: Biostatistician (Surgery)

Department: Administration

Schedule: Full Time


  • Assist in the design and development and maintenance of data collection instruments, databases and procedure manuals.
  • Design, implement, and perform data management and quality control procedures as necessary for routine and special projects.
  • Write computer programs to combine data from separate computer files to allow comparison of data from different sources.
  • Collaborate with program staff on the design and analysis of biostatistics aspects of research protocols
  • Support the creation of SAS/Stata applications in support of research projects.
  • Participate in the design of questionnaires and interview forms.
  • Analyze data beginning with univariate and multivariate analyses such as logistic regression and factor analysis for research studies.
  • Support the interpretation and assist in the creation of study results in collaboration with faculty members, epidemiologists, biostatisticians and other team members.
  • Provide tabular and graphic summaries of analyses in a form suitable for inclusion in manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed scientific journals as well as for presentation at scientific meetings.
  • Travel to project specific administrative and or national clinical meetings and present findings.
  • Attend project team meetings as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Masters of public health, or Masters of Science in epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, or related field




3 years of experience working in the field for Biostatistician II

  • Working knowledge of microcomputers
  • Demonstrated ability to work with software programs and utilize software packages for microcomputers (i.e. SAS, Access, Excel, Power Point and Epi Info)
  • Ability to conduct and interpret multivariable regression analysis
  • Excellent communications, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills necessary to
  • interact with a wide range of individuals
  • Normal visual acuity, hearing and manual dexterity
