JOB SUMMARY


The Department of Neurology at Houston Methodist Hospital seeks to hire a faculty-level biostatistician. The ideal candidate will have a strong quantitative background, including a terminal degree in statistics (or a related field), and will have demonstrated application of advanced quantitative tools and methods in areas of healthcare and clinical research; particularly relating but not limited to omics research, methods in causal inference, and a broad range of mathematical modeling. Direct application of quantitative skills in areas of neuroscience and genomics is a plus.

This position will function both as an independent scientist and consultant / collaborator with the faculty of neurology and may be allocated space, resources, and other operational support within Houston Methodist Research Institute. The position will be expected to mentor and provide leadership in analytical methods to neurology residents and clinical fellows across the department of neurology. Candidates with a strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and independent or collaborative funding support will be considered highly competitive.

The candidate will also have a joint appointment at the Center for Health Care Data and Analytics (HDSA) at Houston Methodist. HDSA comprises of a group of bioinformatic scientists investigating healthcare outcomes and other population-related issues.

The successful candidate will receive a generous startup package and have an opportunity to interact across the wide range of clinical, translational, and basic science programs offered at the Research Institute of Houston Methodist Hospital and academic institutions at the Texas Medical Center. Requirements:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE (10%)

  • Under the direction of a Principal Investigator, coordinates and provides technical direction to the work activities of research staff engaged in projects (EF).


FINANCE (25%)

  • Participates in grant writing
  • Designs, develops, or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results (EF).


QUALITY/SAFETY (25%)

  • Establishes procedures to be applied for projects (EF).
  • Performs and supervises those procedures which require a highly developed technical skill (EF).
  • Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards.
  • Completes all hospital required and job-related in-services and applies the information as needed.
  • Reviews scientific literature (EF).


SERVICE (20%)

  • Analyzes data and interprets data (EF).
  • Demonstrates the components of the ICARE values statement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


GROWTH/INNOVATION (20%)

  • Compiles, writes, and submits project results to the principle investigator (EF).
  • Defines problems and possible solutions as dictated by the research project (EF).
  • Participates in writing manuscripts and publications
